The job of a Fundraising Generalist is to focus on design, development and implementation of fundraising campaigns. We offer a specialized Fundraising Generalist assessment to help nonprofits identify individuals who are likely to become top performers in this role. Our research shows significant differences in the success factors associated with this job compared to Major Gifts jobs. NPEdge's Fundraising Generalist report shows how well an individual fits the job profile. See a sample fundraiser report (PDF).

Fundraising Generalist Job Description

Our research shows that successful Fundraising Generalists are even-tempered, goal oriented, ambitious and outgoing. They participate in all areas of fund development, including fundraising strategy and plans. They manage programs that include special events, direct mail, corporate and foundation giving, new donor recruitment and others. They may also have responsibilities of data management, record keeping, reporting and donation acknowledgment. They work closely with volunteers and other professional fundraisers and support staff. Those with more experience recruit and direct staff, in addition to their work with senior volunteers and executives.

These are pivotal positions that, when staffed successfully, can make an enormous difference in the fortunes of a nonprofit organization.
